San Jose, Costa Rica

March 23rd

After lunch we took a taxi into the town of Atenas to catch a bus to take us to San Jose.  It took about an hour to get to San Jose and once we arrived, we took another taxi to our hotel, called, Hotel Santo Tomas. This hotel was recommended to us by the couple, Nancy and Norm who we met at Vista Atenas Bed and Breakfast.

We booked a standard room that had a small sitting area with internet access.

This hotel also has a pool and the cost of the room includes breakfast.  The photo below on the right shows the dinning area and the person sitting on the left is the owner of the hotel, Tom.  Although he is originally from the United States, he has been living in Costa Rica for about 22 years.

After getting settled into our room, we asked one of the office staff to suggest various places we could go within walking distance to the hotel.  It turned out we were only 4 blocks away from Central Avenue.  We decided to check out the market downtown and then go to a restaurant for dinner.

Here are a couple photos Randie took inside the market.

We ended up doing a little shopping as well.  (I should say, “I” ended up doing some shopping.)  Randie was great as he patiently waited while I tried on various tops, sandals  and jeans.  It was great to shop in this area since no cars were allowed on the street making it easy to zig zag from store to store.

Here are a couple photos taken along Central Avenue.

We had dinner at a place called, Manolos.  In addition to good food, we also enjoyed some entertainment.

A Tico, named Jose ended up joining us for dinner.  Randie started up a conversation with him when he got up to take the photo of the entertainers.  Jose spoke fluent English and told us about several countries he visited around the world.  He also told us he has a daughter who is a lawyer in Edmonton and a son who practices law in San Jose.  We enjoyed our time with Jose and after dinner walked back to our hotel where I spent some time updating our Blog.
